Recent Goings On

Good Morning,

I got up this morning to see the UK decided to leave the EU and Donald Trump’s first interview from Scotland included a promo spot for his new golf course.

The world is freaking pear shaped right now. It blows my mind. It shouldn’t… but it does.

Over here in Graylin land, I’m working on the second Contessa story. It’s tentatively titled I Do, But First… It will release this November. If I finish it earlier, I’ll change the date during the pre-order process.

Arcane Court – For those of you waiting for the fourth book Fanged Deception, it will release this December. Each full length novel of this series comes out a week or two before Halloween.

If you missed it earlier this year, I am now an official member of the Horror Writer’s Association. I’m still giddy about that. It’s the first, and only, professional association I’ve joined. I’m hoping to make it to the convention next year (StokerCon).

This fall, I’ll be appearing at the Indie Book Fest in Orlando October 7-9th. It’s a lovely convention, smaller with a lot more interaction. I hope to see you there!

That’s about it for this week. I’ve been swamped at my day job. Which is fabulous and I’m grateful there are people who trust me with their fragile pain so they can heal.

Off to write more fights!

This was a fun weekend. Here are the photos from my real camera. They are much clearer than any iPhone picture I’ve ever taken.

Florida SuperCon

Candy Man Delivery series Anthology

I’ll be at Florida SuperCon at the Miami Beach Convention Center June 25th – 28th.

I own Dark Fantasy Press and will be in that booth space #1927. I will have some books to sign with me, including the Candy Man Delivery Series paperback with all six stories in it! It came out to 300 pages in paperback. Wooo!!

I’ll have some of my Rane Sjodin books as well as copies of Contessa to sign. I’ll bring cover cards, business cards, and some book marks.

Come on down to the sun and say hello!

Contessa coming in Paperback

In the next three weeks, Contessa will be available in paperback at through Createspace. I’m also looking at the paperback/hardcover options at Nookpress.

The paperback cover is amazing. Thanks to Syneca Featherstone for her amazing work.

The book is in review at Createspace. It will be on sale for $9.99. The reason for the high price, which I wouldn’t hike up if I didn’t have to – is in the graphic below. Amazon insists a book of 366 page be AT LEAST $8.74. In order for me to make 75 cents a book, it’s at $9.99.

Two Releases coming 9/15

This month both Apple Cinnamon Swirl: A Candy Man Delivery Story and Contessa: Princess of the Summer Fae release on the 15th.

Contessa is already up for pre-order:

My cabin sits near a portal to the Otherworld. The Dark Fae are sending ogres to kill any humans who survived the plague they unleashed a year ago.  First a baby dragon, then a goblin, show up looking for me. That’s when the fairy I’d known for a year decides to tell me I’m an elf and my high school boyfriend runs the Dark Fae. I went from human with a bad breakup to a fairy tale creature that was still in love with a killer in three days.

A trip through the Otherworld portal shows me my birthplace and dangles the promise of a happy ending I thought was gone. Confronted with true evil, I have to learn my ice magic while fighting for my life. With rekindled love and a new family to protect, I’ll have to battle a psychotic elf with lightning power. One bolt and I’ll disintegrate. One of us won’t survive.

Apple Cinnamon Swirl will be appearing in your favorite eBook store next week.

Abby grew up in a military family, her father and grandfather served, so when the time came she enlisted without reservation. Then, her back was broken in an IED attack. Her Humvee was thrown sideways, killing her friends and leaving her to learn to walk again.

Repairing her body took months, her limbs regained their flexibility through yoga. What did she have to offer, now?  Abby gave everything to her job, being sent home at the end of the day to an empty house reminded her of lost friends. Trixie wagged her tail making her laugh, but it wasn’t the same. Then Viviana showed up at her house to tell her she’d been chosen. Her sister put in the request to help her ease the loneliness.

Galen watched Abby before he inhabited the body of the statue to learn about the woman he will love throughout her life. He sees a tough warrior in need of unquestioning devotion who will resist him. His admiration for her sacrifices opens a doorway to her pain making her push him away. Galen didn’t take this assignment lightly, he’ll wait until she offers her heart to him, no matter how long it takes.

I hope you love these stories as much as I do. 🙂 Buy Links for Contessa are available on the book page (Link above on the bar) – I’ll add the Apple Cinnamon Swirl links as they go live next week.

Fans of Contagion and Bloodlines…Update

Tessa is returning! I’ve spent a lot of time over the last year revising the entire series. Instead of three novellas, her story will be told in one full sized novel.

Decadent Publishing has been amazingly supportive throughout this process. See, I’m a different author now than I was 4 years ago when I wrote CONTAGION.  I got better *face palm* and wanted to polish the previous stories. Lisa Omstead was on board from the beginning, giving me back the rights to the books so I could make any changes/updates I wanted. Love. Her.

I’ve made some changes to emphasize Tessa and Matthew’s love story while they struggle to survive Greer and Leandra. I can’t write in third person point of view anymore. So instead of, “She turned around smelling ogres before they arrived” you now get “I caught the nauseating stench of ogre before any of them could be seen.”

I am working with another publisher on this. I won’t announce until a contract is signed. If they decline, I’ll self publish the book. Either way, Tessa’s story will be told, in full, this year.

Thank you so much for your patience on this. I had a rough 2013, delaying these revisions by 8 months. I moved to another state, back in South Florida, and reopened my psychology practice. It took a lot out of me, and still demands half my brain every day. But only half, my characters dance in the rest!

2013 Wrap Up

Thank you to all the wonderful readers, authors, and bloggers I’ve met and worked with this year. It’s an amazing journey.

This year SMOLDER came out in May.  It’s a Romantic Suspense Novel. There’s just as much suspense as romance, so if you like a good scary ride.. it’s in there. The week before it’s release, I was in St. Louis Missouri for the Romantic Times Booklovers convention while my Uncle was dying of heart failure, with my father by his side, in Chicago.

I released DEATH DEALER in October under a new pen name – Rane Sjodin. It’s a Paranormal Urban Fantasy Action/Adventure book that starts a new series for me. There will be offshoot books set in the same world, as well.

Due to moving to a different state and having to restart all of my business, I wasn’t able to accomplish as much as I wanted. For starters, Tessa’s (Summer Fae) book is not coming out this year. However, I am working with an editor at one of my publishers to polish the entire series into a single book that will release next year.

1417532_10152111149777154_572216081_oAlso, I have a short story coming out soon as part of a group, it’s a HOT erotic romance and will be the first of six such stories I’ll release next year.

There’s another book, one with Gina, my bounty hunting werewolf, who likes sex as much as killing, in process to be released next year as well. This is also with an editor at a publishing house.

So, the count is up to 6 short stories in a themed series, and three novels, including the second Arcane Court (Rane Sjodin) book, for 2015.

I think that fills all my spare moments up for the year.

Tessa’s Story Tease

Since I announced the changes to the SUMMER FAE series, I’ve made some additions to the first book. I am combining all three separate novellas into one long novel, adding a lot of detail.

CONTAGION is about Tessa, a small pale woman raised in the Appalachian mountains. She survived an apocalyptic plague that killed millions, including her family. This snippet is about her trying to survive post-apocalypse alone in her Atlanta apartment.

Three days after I identified my family, I managed to turn on the news. Having stocked up the apartment with food from a huge box store two weeks ago, checking and rechecking the CDC website for the list of contaminated foods. Paranoia had removed reason.

My stash from the box stores allowed me to forgo the grocery chain stores. They were raided as survivors took all of the non-perishables. The firelight dancing across the sky signaled when they moved on.

My front door looked like a lock company’s test subject. I got everything I could attach with a power drill. The danger came a couple of weeks later. A group of thugs found my apartment complex on January 14th. Terrified screams echoed through the walls as my neighbors fought to live. My heart pounded in my ears as I crawled into my closet. Under blankets that smelled of family camping trips, I waited for them to get me.

Tears of fear and lost memories covering my face, I fought the scream of terror trying to expand my lungs.
Rattling of locks followed by cursing forced me deeper into the closet. I waited. No one came to get me. I couldn’t believe it. Either my locks held or my food supply was gone. Swallowing my fear as I wiped my face dry, I opened the door. I wasn’t going out there uncovered. I’d been raised by a southern mountain man. Loading the handgun took moments. Training took over, slithering out of the closet, still sure they could hear my heart beat. Every hunting lesson I’d been given helped. My father’s voice comforting as he guided me. An apartment ambush wasn’t all that different from chasing deer. I hoped.

Peering around the corner, I could see the front door. My living room looked intact. Even my sisters things were where she left them weeks ago. All of the locks held. Not one broke. I felt as trapped in as I was, but safer.

Pulling myself to my feet I saw movement in the kitchen. Something dark flashed, panicking I shot ahead of it, as I’d been taught. Six shots traced up the wall as I followed the movement. Without any more ammunition on me, I dropped behind the couch to wait. Taking a moment to catch my breath, I waited again. Angry that someone could get into my apartment, steal my food, and then wait for me to come out, I stayed still. I’m small and quick, not big enough to fight. My slight form and ultra pale skin got me teased in school but no matter how hard I tried to bulk up, gain muscles, it didn’t work.

This time I’d jump up and frighten them. Deep breathing to keep from screaming, I jumped up and saw my victim pinned to the wall. Dead. I’d killed a roach.

Fall 2013 Book Updates

got fairy

This website has required do-overs on two occasions. This time there was something wrong in a database. A problem the hosting company had to fix and it prevented the wordpress from working well. This is, hopefully, the last incarnation.

Death_Dealer_facebook_rev1I have a new pen name, Rane Sjodin. You can find the website HERE. The first book in the Arcane Court series will be released on Tuesday, October 29, 2013. The second book has 30k wordswritten. It will be released next fall. Next summer, there will be a book set in that world released as well. The Rane Sjodin site, FB, and Twitter accounts will announce those releases.

For those of you waiting to see what happens to Tessa, I’m revising the entire series into one large novel. The story will remain the same, I’m not changing plot lines. I am adding details to Tessa’s life that were skimmed over the first time. I’ve already started the revising process and this book will be released in December.

I have ideas for a series of books based on statues coming to life. Funny, romantic, with a little paranormal. Those will be written as soon as Tessa’s book is completed.
